| Midwest conventions |
[Jan. 7th, 2010|08:42 am] |
I'm on the hunt for more comic conventions in the Midwest to check out this year.
I'm already going to C2E2 and Wizard World Chicago, as well as a few gaming cons (GenCon especially).
So, what shows am I missing? Which ones are worth checking out? |

Are you keeping up with Pages in Sequence or twitter? If you only knew, what you’re missing. Everything Dies is fully funded and will be going to the printers later this month. There are still 8 days left if you want to get some of ‘dem sweet donation rewards and the first hot off the press copies of the books. Otherwise, you’re waiting buddy.

Hey folks, been a while since I posted anything, I know. So here's some Mechageddon stuff.
More recently I started sketching out all the various mechanical components for the real stars of the game, the mechs themselves. Here's a couple early tests of the methods that will be used to build the 'bots.

Given the large library of mechanical bits and pieces we're planning on cramming into the game, you'll have nothing but options when it comes to mech assembly.
I'll try to get back into the habit of posting regularly, if y'all are interested! |

Fellow vegetarian and friend kambriel as the wicked Mrs. Lovett. Inspired by her recent posts on kitchen witchery and pictured in a gown she made entirely from on-hand fabric and trimmings. Reference photo taken by Curse. Ink and watercolor on... scrap cardboard.

| An odd confluence of events... |

I don't actually tend to regard what I do as all that great. I've even 'gotten in trouble' in the past for giving honest opinions on my own work but hey, I'm one lucky SOB that enough of you nice people *do* seem to like what I do, which I'm hugely thankful for and hope never to take for granted! I still prefer to try and be my own worst critic though. It's a good day indeed when I really truly like a piece of art I've done.
But over the holidays, I realized it was apparently the end of a decade and duh, a new year anyway, so everyone started making those list things, and apparently my name or work came up a few times, which made me thoroughly chuffed. It's not about awards and crap like that, who needs them ( unless I win, then forget I said that ) but having your name brought up enough times is definitely some sort of sign you're on the right path hopefully.
So cheers to io9.com for thinking 2 of my covers are worthy enough to be in their top 100 for the decade! Aintitcool.com reckons 2 books I did are the best ( or almost ) of the decade and Newsarama apparently thinks I'm worth watching this year for some reason. Horribly honoured when people say nice things about me since...well...most of you see what I write on twitter!

Oh yeah, after listening to me waffle on, here's a work in progress shot of the special cover to CHOKER #1 just for the Emerald City Comic-con.
If you want to see more, I'll have a 'how I do the art' section in the back of the book, not online! |

No mask by ~hideko69 on deviantART
Ink applied through different methods and coloring pencils smudged with water on a A2 size canvas. This will be part of an exposition we're holding at our school, themed "No mask"
In my work I intend to unmask the idea of the "happy fatty" =) Hope you like it! |

Imagine the scene if you will......
Jay: (pointing to a huge spot above his right eyebrow) This is sore, has this got a head on it?
Me: (squeezing the back of his skull) Yup.
(hysterical laughter from me)
(he turns away in disgust at my mirth)
Me: It's got a very striking profile too.
(so much laughter that I couldn't stop. It was bedtime and I was tired but I lay there giggling for AGES. In fact, it's started me off laughing again now just writing about it) |
